Jaguars roaring into Auction
Due to go under the hammer on Friday 15th March in Sheffield Auction Gallery’s Spring Specialist Collectable Toys Sale is an exciting single-owner collection of over 1,000 models of Jaguar cars.
A lifelong passion for real Jaguars led to Lincolnshire Vendor, Ken Chapman, amassing this vast amount of cars. His private collection has been built up over the last 20 years and will be one of the new Years highlights in the Collector’s Sale at the Gallery, part of the large specialist toys and collectables sales.
An eclectic and representative collection, it covers many manufacturers, from the contemporary to the modern, tinplate to diecast and plastic, and over many scales. Manufacturers include the mainstream of Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox, Autoart and some of the more unusual like Tekno, Solido, Nicky, Norev, to name but a few. Both boxed and unboxed with auction estimates from £20 to hundreds of pounds per Lot.
Ken has always been keen to keep his collection on display and share his enthusiasm with those of a similar interest. However, now a retired businessman Ken is down-sizing so decided rather than see the collection go into store he would like to pass it on to a new set of custodians for the future.
Specialist Valuer at the Gallery, John Morgan said “Single owner, single marque collections of this size and scope always throw up the rare, unusual and sometimes unique which is why they are so exciting.”
As for Ken’s favourite model it is the Jaguar XK120 and favourite Jaguar he has owned – a Daimler Double 6. And for those looking for one of the ultimate pub quiz questions – Which Football Chairman gave Glenn Hoddle his first job in football management? The answer Ken Chapman! When he was Chairman of Swindon Town FC.
The catalogue will be available the week prior to the auction, fully illustrated on our Catalogues page.
